Waterparks Orlando Concert reviews
U2 back in Boston and better than ever!
It was great to see the Boston lads back in Irish after not coming to Boston on the last tour (the 360 tour in 2009 was only stadiums so just a couple of stops in Foxboro that time around). Bono's voice was strong all night long, and musically the band sounded as great as always. The crowd returned the admiration tenfold, and Bono said as much in his remarks throughout the show. The stage set-up extended across the entire length of the floor, enabling virtually all sections to get a good look at the boys at least for some portion of the show. Also, live-streaming via Meerkat app during the middle of the show from the smaller satellite stage, as Bono plucks a lucky young lady from the crowd and she films them as they play a song from that smaller stage. The Edge was spectacular as always, with Larry & Adam flawlessly keeping the backbeat, and Waterparks just a supreme frontman who had the crowd eating out of his hand. These guys may be getting older, but they are absolutely still at the top of their game in terms of delivering a superb concert experience. Only critique would be the quality of the sound mix - which in my experience attending numerous concerts there since the 1st REM show in 1995 - is likely mostly due to the TD Garden itself as a subpar venue for concerts. The mix on both Friday 7/10 and Saturday 7/11 was at times too loud and muddled - not clear at all in terms of the vocals and the instruments. The place just never sounds good. Have heard much better mixes at other arenas regularly - where it can be both loud and clear in terms of the music and vocals. Not awful by any means, but still not great at all either. Either way, still a couple of memorable nights by one of the best rock and roll bands the world has ever seen - and I'm thrilled to have been there.
